RED LINE BLUES is a pocket-size journal published out of Asheville, North Carolina, and Brooklyn, New York, by Moriah Norris-Hale, Erich Nagler, and Benjamin Yanes. Each issue tackles a new theme through a number of different voices. The current issue is Home Economics.

Red Line Blues 8: Home Economics
Honey, I’m Home! Spring is here, ready with our cast-iron skillets, sewing kits, and hoes (the gardening variety) in hand, just in time for Red Line Blues #8: Home Economics.
That’s right: Home Ec 101, Red Line Blues style. We knew something was up this past year when iPad released apps for gardeners, and Michelle Obama planted turnips in the White House lawn. Not to mention every other hipster keeping a food blog. (In a good way! We love food blogs!) But who are all those folks out there, hipster-homesteaders and poet-farmers?
We’ve gathered submissions about the food/craft/self-sufficiency movement taking root across our nation: Beekeeping in New York City. Homesteading in Los Angeles. Canning in Cleveland. Raising goats in the ’burbs. From rooftop gardens in Brooklyn to farm stands in Portland; to reclaimed old tobacco farms in Carolina and rediscovered kitchens all over the country — get ready to read about Bringin’ It All Back Home in Twenty-Eleven.

Red Line Blues now has its very own online store! Gone are the days of our Sears-Roebuck distribution system (Please send check or money order...). Click here to check out the wares.
And for those of you in the Asheville area, you can find Red Line Blues on the shelves at Downtown Books & News on Lexington Avenue. Other retailers interested in carrying Red Line Blues — please drop us a line! We’re always interested in reaching new readers (and writers).

We’re real proud that Red Line Blues is now on its eighth issue! You can click the covers on your left to see the contents of previous issues. Just about all of ’em are still available for purchase (while supplies last) in our online store.
And, look for a couple of [musical] surprises waiting on the other side of Red Line Blues 4: Hole In the Wall.

The content of each issue of Red Line Blues is chosen through an open call for entries on the given theme. We announce the theme a few months before submissions are due. All are invited to submit work on the theme, in any genre or medium. (A gentle note: Submitted works are subject to light editing.) Submissions can be sent to editor@redlineblues.com.
